Playing in his first game against his former team, St. Louis goalie Chris Mason was absolutely sensational on Tuesday, stopping 47 shots in regulation and overtime, not to mention two additional shots in a shootout, as a depleted Blues team walked out of Nashville with a 1-0 shootout win. David Perron and Brad Boyes scored for St. Louis in the shootout, while Rich Peverley and Ville Koistinen came up short for the Predators.
The story of the night was Mason, who was traded by Nashville on June 20, in exchange for a fourth-round pick. The 32-year old goalie was a brick wall in net, as Nashville held a commanding 47-17 edge in the shots department. His best performance of the evening had to be the overtime period, as he turned aside nine shots as Nashville peppered him with shots on a 4-on-3 man advantage, following a questionable penalty call on Blues defenseman Barret Jackman.
The Blues have now picked up points in four consecutive games, after losing eight of their previous nine.
Thrashers Pound Toronto
The Thrashers snapped a three five-game losing streak on Tuesday, as they went into Toronto and came out with a 6-3 win. The six goals are actually more than Atlanta scored in its previous three games during the losing streak, while Johan Hedberg turned aside 32 shots in the win.
Atlanta received a pair of goals from Todd White, as Colby Armstrong, Ilya Kovalchuk, Chris Thorburn, and Mathieu Schneider also potted goals for the Thrashers. Nik Antropov, Jeff Finger and Niklas Hagman scored for Toronto, while Lee Stempniak, playing in his first game for the Leafs, picked up an assist and four shots on goal in 17-minutes of ice time.
Late in the second period, Kovalchuk had a couple of run-ins with Toronto's Ian White, which ultimately resulted in the weakest fight ever. Weak, simply because the two never really had a chance to start throwing haymakers at one another. The refs stepped in and broke it up relatively quickly.
Rene Bourque Scores Twice in Flames Win
The Calgary Flames picked up a 6-2 win over the slumping Kings on Tuesday, as Rene Bourque scored a pair of goals in the win. For the Kings, it's their fourth loss in the past five games.
Calgary's Mike Cammalleri opened the scoring in the first period, scoring against the team that traded him away this offseason. He finished with a game-high eight shots on goal in the win.
Los Angeles goalie Erik Ersberg failed to make it through the second period, as he was lifted after giving up four goals on just 18 shots.
Alexander Frolov and Anze Kopitar picked up goals for the Kings in the third, but by then it was too little, too late.

FWIW, the Thrashers were on a 3 game losing streak, not a 5... the three games came after a 5 game winning streak.

You're right. I don't know why I wrote five, especially since I referenced "three" games in the next sentence.
Thanks for the catch.
