In case you missed it, here's what Avery said to a video crew before Tuesday's Stars-Flames game in Calgary:
"Uh, I'm really happy to be back in Calgary. I love Canada. And I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about. Enjoy the game tonight."So the NHL followed up by suspending Avery. The league explained the ruling with the following press release:
Dallas Stars forward Sean Avery has been suspended indefinitely, pending a hearing with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, in accordance with the provisions of NHL By-Law 17 and Article 6 of the NHL Constitution for conduct "detrimental to the League or game of hockey," the National Hockey League announced today. The suspension was imposed following inappropriate public comments, not pertaining to the game, made by Avery earlier today. The suspension was probably the only thing standing between Avery and a possibly historic confrontation with Phaneuf later Tuesday evening when the Stars played the Flames in Calgary. (Dallas won 3-1.)
According to the New Jersey Devils blog, Fire and Ice, the hearing has yet to be scheduled. But if I were a betting man, I'd guess that Commissioner Bettman won't be in any rush to get Avery to Manhattan for a hearing. The next question has to be the following: does this suspension mark the breaking point with the league and Avery, or will a league that's been desperate to add some personality -- even one as toxic as Avery has proven to be from time to time -- give him one more break?

This guy Avery should be allowed to play tonight and get his butt kicked. Then suspended , I have seen Cuthbert this past September in the Calgary airport and she is a sweet kid . He is nuts . He has a problem . Isn't he the one who played with his sisters dolls?

Has Sean Avery done anything in recent months to make headlines that relate to him actually playing hockey? The only way this guy can get anyone to look at him or pay attention to his game is to trash everyone else's. I hope Dion crushes his skull like a peanut shell!

I agree. Who cares about the skank or her new beau. This will be overturned because of free speach rights. no names were mentioned. and who cares if he is a big name in the NHL

And this is where I call you a dummy. I get real tired of people throwing around the lame excuse of "freedom of speech" and acting like its slowly being taken away from them. First of all he was in Canada (where the laws arent exactly the same), secondly freedom of speech doesnt mean you can talk trash about people. Its called slander and its illegal. Read up on your constitutional "rights" before pulling that card, because you sound super annoying.

That is a ridiculous thing to say. The NHL is not a free pass to talk shit against someone that has nothing to do with the sport. Sean Avery is a mockery to the game and to the fans that support it. If you don't like hockey anymore because of this, good riddance to you. The sport is better off without people like you and your way of thinking being involved. And by the way, the number 2 is spelled "two."

The NHL is making too big of a deal about Avery saying something about 'sloppy seconds.' Yeah, suspend Avery but let Todd Bertuzzi get way with almost breaking someones neck on the ice with a punch to the back of the head.... Or, how about Jordan Tootoo's sucker punch on Stephan Robidas Last season? Come on!

Did you mean that time when the coward Robidas tried to rush Tootoo from behind when Tootoo was already engaged with Modano? The yellow Robidas got what was coming to him. That type of play seems to be a pattern for the Scars. Nice signing of Avery. He fits right in. Try to find a more suitable example.

Could we PLEASE pansify the NHL some more?!? Because THAT would up the ratings!!! Here's what Avery said:
"I am really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada," Avery said on camera this morning in Calgary. "I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about. Enjoy the game tonight."
Whether you hate Sean Avery or not, you should speak out and not let the NHL turn players into cub scouts!! Incredibly LAME!!!

Blah blah blah, enough of the Avery bashing. I met him before and he's an awesome guy. What he does on the ice is part of his tactical warfare. Wanna get rid of hacks? Get rid of whiners like Mike Ribeiro, that guy is just as bad as a soccer player with his numerous diving performances. That douche is an insult to hockey!
