Sidney Crosby's Fighting Style: Dirty as I Wanna Be, Part 2

A couple of weeks ago Eric McErlain passed along the video of Penguins center Sidney Crosby punching an unsuspecting Atlanta Thrashers player in the goods. It didn't exactly go over well with hockey fans because, well, a lot of people may have been suspended for a similar move while Crosby went unpunished. On Saturday, with the Penguins getting their hats handed to them -- again -- on home ice, Crosby decided to take out his frustrations on Brett McLean and essentially jumped him right off the draw.

The scrap came just after Max Talbot and Gregory Campbell squared off in a mutually agreed upon bout. If Crosby wants to be a leader and stick up for his team -- and himself -- there are better ways to do it. Basically mugging the guy across from you and then wildly throwing punches with your visor on is not the way. Terribly weak on Crosby's part. Is it weaker than the Penguins collective team effort the past month? That's a toss up, my friends.

Both players received five-minute majors for fighting, while Crosby picked up a 10-minute misconduct and a double minor for roughing.

The Penguins ultimately lost, 6-1, dropping their fourth consecutive game -- and fifth straight at home -- while they are 8-13 since November 15. Even worse, with Buffalo's win in Boston on Saturday, the Penguins fall to the ninth spot in the Eastern Conference, meaning, if the playoffs were to start today, the defending Eastern Conference champions would be on the outside looking in. Fortunately, the playoffs don't start today. Though if the Penguins keep playing like this it's not going to matter when they start.

I sit close to the glass. YOu could see Sid ask Brett if he wanted to go, and BRETT SAID YES, then changed his mind. Probably because he knew idiots like you make him look like a victim. Think how sad it is that Brett McLean got his butt kicked by the so-called wimp Sidney Crosby.

weakest fight of the season. crosby is a cheap little fella. the third party in a fight/with gloves on/back of the head//balls punching incident sealed it for me. Oddly enough in todays world there is video confirmation if his fans want to remain in denial.

I think the minors were for (1) Instigating and (2) Unsportsmanlike for instigating with a visor.

Why don't Crosby try to drop his gloves on a toe to toe fight, I don't think you'll see him do that, he is a cheap shot and always will be, hes a fairy. If he asked that guy to go, he would have had his ass handed to him, because he can't fight. They only way he can fight is to punch a guy in the nuts or jump them!

Ok, I just returned from the game, and what you D-Bags didn't see was what McLean was doing to Sid and his teammates throughout the game. Yeah, we are on the skids right now, but the rest of the NHL world can't wait to jump all over Sid and the Pens every chance they get. Jealous?

I didn't see anything wrong with the fight at all. It's not like Brett McLean was carried out on a stretcher or anything, the guy walked away almost laughing and I like to see an aggresive side to a star player sometimes, not just nodding like two boxers trying to provide sideshow entertainment. Then again, Sid is popular and people hate when someone is built up like that so they complain about every move he makes. Plus, with this Pens team struggling, maybe he thought they needed something to spark some emotion into his teammates. I would make a huge deal of it if McLean was seriously hurt but from what I saw, he just got a 5 minute major while Crosby took the bigger hit for instigating it and will probably be fined this time for it as well.

yeah bill we're jealous of the 9 seed. bitter pens fans always have one of those 'hes so talented' excuses. anyone who isnt named alexander or sidney gets 10 games for being a 3rd party in a fight, with his gloves on, punching in the back of the neck and grundle. The fight on this video isnt bad, it just shows what a nancy he really is. Thats one of many incidents that make people (the entire NHL) resent crosby and his peckerhead ways. no one is jealous, however we are still laughing at you and your lack of knowledge along with the other ridiculous pens fans. get a clue--your sidney is ruining it for the real tough guys.

Check Sid's post game interview. He tells the tale of asking him is he wants to go. "Usually 'Yes' means 'Yes'".

Pens had a rough January last year, and ended up trashing the Eastern conference in the playoffs. We will see how the season unfolds.

If you actually watch the entire game instead of a 2 minute video and listening to some dipshit who obviously didn't watch the entire game either. There was a conversation shown on air between Crosby and McLean in the penalty boxes where you could see Crosby asking him "what was that"... "you said yes". If they agree to fight, the fight is on. If McLean changed his mind or didn't want to fight then he should have said "no, I'm a sissy" to begin with. Hate Sid all you want, he has faults and had made some cheap moves, but this wasn't one of them. This was a guy realizing he made a mistake saying yes once his jersey was over his head and his nose bloodied.

I'm a Penguins fan. I watch every game, including this one. If Crosby wants to fight, he needs to do it for real, without the visor, and without mauling a guy who was obviously trying to play the puck. But he shouldn't be fighting anyway, leave it to the guys who are there to fight. He needs to worry more about his blind, behind-the-back spin-o-rama passes that never seem to connect to anyone except guys wearing the other sweater.
