Newsmakers in the NHL: Dallas Comes Back Against Detroit

Fantastic game in Dallas on Monday night, as the Stars overcame a 3-1 deficit to pull out a 5-4 overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings.

The Stars fired 49 shots at Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood, which is the most shots a Detroit team has allowed since 1989. Brian Rafalski and Tomas Holmstrom scored a pair of goals in the first period, staking the Wings out to an early 2-0 lead. After Niklas Grossman scored his first career regular season goal for Dallas, Marian Hossa responded just a minute later to help Detroit take back its two-goal advantage.

Dallas, however, came out in the second period and unleashed a barrage of shots at Osgood -- 23 in the second period alone -- while Stephane Robidas and Mark Parrish tallied goals to tie the game, 3-3, heading into the third peiod.

After a highlight reel goal from Pavel Datsyuk early in the period, Steve Ott picked up a power play goal with three minutes to play, ultimately sending the game to overtime where Trevor Daley scored the game-winner just 1:51 in.

For a game that featured nine goals, there was also some fantastic goaltending on display, as Osgood made a pair of sprawling saves, diving across the crease -- including one on Ott that looked like it may have been a goal -- while Marty Turco robbed Hossa by laying his stick across the goalline, denying him his second goal of the game.

The loss snaps Detroit's six-game winning streak, while Dallas continues its efforts to climb out of an early season hole, winning for the 10th time in its past 18 games.

Lightning 3, Kings 1: Los Angeles goalie Erik Ersberg had a rough night in net, as he was lifted in the second period after giving up three goals on just seven shots in the Kings 3-1 loss to Tampa Bay. Evgeny Artyukhin and Mark Recchi scored a pair of goals just 41 seconds apart, while Vincent Lecavalier added his 17th of the season just 5:48 into the second period, giving Tampa Bay a 3-0 lead. Mike Smith turned aside 29-of-30 shots in net for the Lightning, while Peter Harrold scored the only goal of the night for the Kings. Lecavalier finished with a goal, an assist and four shots on goal, despite trade rumors that have been denied by Lightning ownership, only to keep showing up.
