Columbus Blue Jackets' defenseman Mike Commodore, who may be best remembered on the internet for making it rain in his underwear, is really becoming a great guy for reporters to question. Whether it's a blogger or a MSM journalist, he doesn't really shy away from many questions, specifically ones about folks he isn't too fond of. You may remember that last week he called Detroit Red Wings' coach Mike Babcock "an obstacle in [his] career." This week, Commodore has a new target and it's another former employer. This time, he goes after Ottawa Senators' coach Bryan Murray. Let's watch the fireworks!
Commodore was acquired by the Senators late last season and played poorly during his short stay. In Ottawa last year, he had two assists and a -9 rating in 26 games. During the off-season, he signed a five-year, $18.75 million deal with the Blue Jackets. Naturally, there was some talk about whether or not he was worth it.
"Bryan Murray said some things to the media that he shouldn't have," Commodore told the Dispatch. "I'd have a meeting with him and he'd end up saying things to the media that he wouldn't say to my face. For Commodore, it's always been about finding a source of motivation and that hasn't changed since he left Ottawa. This year, he has been able to channel that frustration and turn it into what is a career year. He has returned to the form that helped the Carolina Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup in 2006. Through 48 games he is 4-17-22 with a +19 rating. What a difference a year makes.
"I'm struggling, the team's struggling, and Bryan's telling the media that I'm a player with no hands and no ability. Then they'd come to me and I'd have to spin it somehow, or try to laugh it off."
...
"I aired it out. It was a great meeting [with Murray]. Things were better on a personal level. He asked if I wanted to come back and I said, 'Yes.' I told him I didn't want to slam that door.
"I said, 'Hire a coach and give me a call.' Well, I never got the call. And then I read in the newspapers that I think I'm worth more than I really am.
