Newsmakers in the NHL: Evgeni Malkin Saves Penguins

Penguins 4, Lightning 3: I feel as if I've said this before, but this could be the game that turns the Penguins season around. It has to be. If it doesn't spark something with this group, nothing will.

Trailing 3-0 in the third period, Evgeni Malkin transformed himself into a one-man wrecking crew as he scored a pair of goals -- including the game-winner in overtime -- and assisted on another in Pittsburgh's 4-3 overtime win against Tampa Bay. After Malkin scored the Penguins first goal of the night, Mark Eaton and Petr Sykora scored a pair of goals in the final six minutes of regulation to send the game to overtime.

Sykora's goal came on the power play after Gary Roberts -- who became a cult hero of sorts during his year-and-a-half stay in the 'Burgh -- was suckered into a foolish penalty by Matt Cooke.

Bruins 3, Flyers 1: Boston picked up its third win in a row thanks to a 3-1 victory in Philadelphia. David Krejci and Dennis Wideman scored a pair of goals less than a minute apart, while Tim Thomas turned aside 25-of-26 shots in net. The Bruins have allowed only two goals over the past three games, outscoring their opponents by a 7-2 margin.

Sabres 5, Leafs 0: Justin Pogge made his third career start in net for Toronto and, well, this one went about as well as his most recent one as the 22-year old surrendered five goals on 32 shots, as the Leafs fell, 5-0, in Buffalo. Thomas Vanek picked up four points, including a hat trick, while Ryan Miller turned aside all 16 shots he faced for the Sabres. Pogge has given up 11 goals in his past two starts, posting a dismal .792 save percentage.

Red Wings 5, Coyotes 4: Detroit watched a 4-2 lead disappear in the third period, only to have Nicklas Lidstrom net the game-winner with 39 second to play in regulation, leading the Wings to a 5-4 win over Phoenix. Marian Hossa scored a pair of goals, while Henrik Zetterberg picked up his first goal since signing his lifetime contract extension.

Wild 3, Ducks 0: Niklas Backstrom put together a stellar performance in net for Minnesota on Wednesday night, stopping all 34 shots he faced to pick up his sixth shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Anaheim. Mikko Koivu, Andrew Brunette and Pierre-Marc Bouchard provided the offense for the Wild.
