The Penguins-Flyers rivalry is one of the great ones in the NHL. They're separated by about five hours of turnpike, the fans don't like like each other, and the players don't like each other. Penguins fans hate Scott Hartnell, Flyers fans hate everybody, sometimes even themselves, and especially Martin Biron. Whenever the two teams meet in Philadelphia, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is booed relentlessly every time he touches the puck. The popular consensus among Flyers faithful is that Crosby is, among other things, a whiner, a diver, and, according to their well-timed chants during stoppages in play, a person that sucks at his profession. On Saturday, there were more diving allegations being thrown around, only this time they were being tossed in the direction of the Broad Street Bullies.
With the Penguins on a 5-on-3 advantage in the first period, Jordan Staal was sent to the penalty box for tripping Philadelphia forward, and master of the shorthanded goal, Mike Richards. As you can see in this video, Penguins color commentator Bob Errey wasn't exactly thrilled with the call.
"Nice job, Greg Louganis." That's going to leave a mark.
My opinion? Staal clearly trips Richards with his stick, which is followed by Richards clearly taking another step and belly flopping on the ice. Now, the question becomes: was he embellishing the play? Or was he attempting to dive for the loose puck in an effort to knock it out of the zone? Only Mike Richards knows the answer to that question, but if the answer is the latter, he might need to use Willie Mitchell's 80-inch stick next time.
Oh how I love this rivalry.

You've GOT to be kidding me... if any Flyer had tripped up little girl Sindey like that, her highness would have splashed all the way out to center ice and Bobbi Errs would have been screaming for a match penalty(which would surely have been called). Mike Richards NEVER dives. He was clearly anticipating a pass along the blue line, and attempting to create a SH scoring opportunity. Mike Richards is a true hockey player, not a whiny, flopping Pittsburgh poster girl.

Crosby was voted the player who complains the most by not only Philadelphia, not only fans, but by his peers. They (nhl.com) polled players from across the league and one of the questions was "Player who complains the most", Crosby won by a land slide. And if I may correct the grammatical travesty that happened in one comment it would be "non talented". See one of our players is an Princeton graduate, and apparently our fans also prove more literate.
