UPDATE (8:30 PM): The Rangers have confirmed that John Tortorella is officially in as coach. Only a few hours after the firing of Rangers' coach Tom Renney, TSN's Bob McKenzie went live with a story about whom the successor could be.
According to McKenzie, the Rangers and former Lightning coach John Tortorella already "have an agreement in place" that would make him the 34th head coach in team history. However, the Rangers would need to contact the Lightning about his availability, something McKenzie said has not happened yet. The key word there is likely 'yet'.
If hired, Tortorella would bring fireworks and fanfare to the Rangers' locker room and, who knows, could light a fire under some of the team's under performing stars. In my opinion, that would likely be one of the reasons behind the move. Tortorella is likely one of the best candidates on the market right now, but he would also be a departure from Renney in the personality department.

Rangers need more than a fire under their asses; they need some players; Markus Naslund? Egads , this is who is going to carry this team? Gomez looks like he is enjoying the ride (and the moneyu and Drury looks like he should be back in Buffalo) hate to say it but the Rangers need a Superstar ( just like Sather thought when he got Jagr) Any Pavel Bures out there?

mistakes have been made with this team for years at every level...starting at the very top with the Dolan family, to Sather, to Renney, and to the underachieving players. it's time for a complete revamp. the current management of this team will never produce a stanley cup championship. keep lundquist and begin the overhaul in front of him. there are some very bright lights in hartford that deserve to skate at the garden. a few more ryan callahans would be a very good start!

bring back messier in any role!! having him on the bench gets them 10 more wins this season!! he could make rookies play twice as hard as what these "" vets are doing now.

All this wasted goal tending. Should have kept some of our goal scorers..Tired of seeing 1-0; 2-1 loses.Would rather see goal scoring from our guys. Can anybody on this team hit net? Trading deadline nearing; trade anyone but our goalie.

In my lifetime; I've seen The Jets win 1 super bowl; The Knicks win 2 championships; The Mets win 2 world Series; and last but not least The Rangers 1 Stanley Cup.I will most likely die before any one of these teams win again. Tired of getting my hopes built up only to get my heart broke; year after year.
