| Our Take: WTH??! -- Adam Gretz |
||

||
| Edmonton Oilers get: Patrick O'Sullivan, F |
Mar 4 |
Carolina Hurricanes get: Erik Cole, F |
| Our Take: Adam Gretz breaks down this massive four-team deal here. | ||
| Carolina Hurricanes get: Patrick O'Sullivan, F 2009 2nd Round Pick |
Mar 4 |
Los Angeles Kings get: Justin Williams, F |
| Our Take: Adam Gretz breaks down this massive four-team deal here. | ||
| San Jose Sharks get: Travis Moen, F Kent Huskins, D |
Mar 4 |
Anaheim Ducks get: Nick Bonino, F Timo Pielmeier, G Conditional Pick |
| Our Take: The San Jose Sharks improved their defensive depth with the acquisitions of Moen and Huskins. Both players are affordable and set to become unrestricted free agents. Huskins has been nursing a broken foot injury but should be ready to play soon. He is a 5/6 defenseman with some offensive creativity and decent speed. He played limited minutes in Anaheim and figures to fill a similar role with the Sharks. -- Earl Sleek | ||
| Chicago Blackhawks get: Samuel Pahlsson, F |
Mar 4 |
Anaheim Ducks get: James Wisniewski, D |
| Our Take: It's hard to tell what the Blackhawks were thinking here. They give up on a promising young defender for someone who really isn't going to affect their playoff chances. Maybe they saw Calgary making so many moves today and figured they had to do something. -- Kevin Schultz |
||
| Philadelphia Flyers get: Kyle McLaren, D |
Mar 4 |
San Jose Sharks get: 2009 6th Round Pick |
| Our Take: That's quite a return for a guy who has spent the entire season in the minors. -- Kevin Schultz |
||
| Columbus Blue Jackets get: Kevin LaLande, G |
Mar 4 |
Calgary Flames get: 2009 4th Round Pick |
| Our Take: Hockey's Future has LaLande now listed as the third-best goalie in the Blue Jacket's farm system. That's something, right? -- Tom Mantzouranis |
||
| Florida Panthers get: Steve Eminger, D |
Mar 4 |
Tampa Bay Lightning get: Noah Welch, D 2009 3rd Round Pick |
| Our Take: Once a promising first round draft pick, Eminger is suddenly playing with his fourth franchise in less than a year (Washington, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay and now Florida). Previously projected as a puck moving defenseman who might be capable of helping run a power play, Eminger seems to be rounding into a second or third pair d-man and just the sort of spare part teams might be interested in acquiring at the deadline on the cheap. -- Eric McErlain |
||
| Anaheim Ducks get: Erik Christensen, F |
Mar 4 |
Atlanta Thrashers get: Eric O'Dell, F |
| Our Take: Erik Christensen gets another fresh start after being a tremendous disappointment in Atlanta, while the Thrashers get Anaheim's second-round pick from a year ago. That's probably more than they should have expected. -- Adam Gretz |
||
| Buffalo Sabres get: Dominic Moore, F |
Mar 4 |
Toronto Maple Leafs get: 2009 2nd Round Pick |
| Our Take: Toronto wanted to re-sign Dominic Moore, but his salary demands were obviously too high for general manager Brian Burke. He was having a career-year and a second-round pick seems like fair value. -- Adam Gretz |
||
| New York Rangers get: Derek Morris, D |
Mar 4 |
Phoenix Coyotes get: Dmitri Kalinin, D Nigel Dawes, F Petr Prucha, F |
| Our Take: Morris wanted out of Phoenix, and he'll help the Rangers' struggling power play. -- Kevin Schultz |
||
| New York Rangers get: Nik Antropov, F |
Mar 4 |
Toronto Maple Leafs get: 2009 2nd Round Pick Conditional Pick |
| Our Take: Nik Antropov adds an instant scoring presence to a team that desperately needs one. Sather is making a major push this season. -- Kevin Schultz | ||
| Philadelphia Flyers get: Daniel Carcillo, F |
Mar 4 |
Phoenix Coyotes get: Scottie Upshall, F 2009 2nd Round Pick |
| Our Take: This seems like quite a bit to give up for a goon -- and not a particularly bright one on the ice, might I add. Upshall's nothing to write home about, but him and a second-round pick for Carcillo? I guess the Flyers like their toughness. -- Adam Gretz |
||
| Pittsburgh Penguins get: Bill Guerin, F |
Mar 4 |
New York Islanders get: Conditional 2009 5th Round Pick |
| Our Take: The Islanders had to get rid of Guerin at this point, and the pick escalates to a third round selection if the Pens win a first-round playoff series this year. Long Island, your nightmare is over. The Pens, meanwhile, are clearly gearing up for a playoff run. -- Kevin Schultz |
||
| Boston Bruins get: Mark Recchi, C 2010 2nd Round Pick |
Mar 4 |
Tampa Bay Lightning get: Matt Lashoff, D Martins Karsums, F |
| Our Take: Boston adds a proven veteran and playoff performer in a somewhat bounce-back season along with a draft pick. Not a bad return for a pair of minor-leaguers. -- Adam Gretz |
||
| Calgary Flames get: Olli Jokinen, C 2009 3rd Round Pick |
Mar 4 |
Phoenix Coyotes get: Matthew Lombardi, C Brandon Prust, RW 2009 1st Round Pick |
| Our Take: Jokinen never really fit in with the Coyotes. He's not a leader, and he should work out better in Calgary, where the Flames already have their alpha dog in Jarome Iginla. Jokinen adds to the Flames' great day, and will upgrade their power play and forward depth. They didn't even have to cripple their farm system or defensive corps to do it. -- Bruce Ciskie |
||
| Boston Bruins get: Steve Montador, D |
Mar 4 |
Anaheim Ducks get: Petteri Nokelainen, F |
| Our Take: Chara has someone to help him try to cripple people; Montador is a tough guy. You won't see him quarterback the Bruins' power play, but he's going to take care of Chara and the other big names/skill guys on that team. Nokelainen is a nice young player who should help the Ducks down the road. -- Bruce Ciskie |
||
| Buffalo Sabres get: Mikael Tellqvist, G |
Mar 4 |
Phoenix Coyotes get: 2009 4th Round Pick |
| Our Take: Acquiring Tellqvist gives the Sabres another option in net at a very low price. I assume there's now going to be a competition for the starting job between Tellqvist and Patrick Lalime until Ryan Miller comes back. This also could mean that Miller isn't coming back soon, but it's probably just insurance. -- Kevin Schultz |
||
| Calgary Flames get: Jordan Leopold, D |
Mar 4 |
Colorado Avalanche get: 2009 2nd Round Pick Ryan Wilson, D Lawrence Nycholat, D |
| Our Take: This is a surprisingly solid trade for the Flames. Did constant rumors of Leopold's transfer ruin the return the Avalanche could get? The package they got is uninspiring. -- Adam Gretz |
||
| Columbus Blue Jackets get: Antoine Vermette, LW |
Mar 4 | Ottawa Senators get: Pascal Leclaire, G 2009 2nd Round Pick |
| Our Take: Vermette could be a big addition to the Blue Jackets' playoff hopes if he can put his potential together. Leclaire will likely battle for starts, but the Senators get a useful package from a player who has taken a step back in '08-'09. -- Adam Gretz |
||
| New Jersey Devils get: Niclas Havelid, D |
Mar 2 | Atlanta Thrashers get: Anssi Salmela, D |
| Our Take: Salmela shows a little potential, but the Devils need a 6th d-man now. He's a project the fire-selling Thrashers could use, and Havelid gives the NJ game-ready depth. Both teams should win. -- Tom Mantzouranis |
||
| Montreal Canadiens get: Doug Janik, D |
Feb 26 |
Dallas Stars get: Steve Begin, C |
| Our Take: Hardly a blockbuster, though it loads Montreal with defensemen. Might be a precursor to move another blue-liner. -- Tom Mantzouranis |
||
| Anahem Ducks get: Ryan Whitney, D |
Feb 26 |
Pittsburgh Penguins get: Chris Kunitz, F Eric Tangradi, F |
| Our Take: Whitney's a divisive figure on an off-year in Pittsburgh, while Kunitz and Tangradi instantly improve Pittsburgh's depth and talent. -- Adam Gretz |
||
| Ottawa Senators get: Mike Comrie, C Chris Campoli, D |
Feb 20 |
New York Islanders get: Dean McAmmond, LW 2009 1st Round Pick |
| Our Take: The Senators make this move with the playoffs in mind, forgetting that they're not making the playoffs. McAmmond's a decent addition, but the Islanders' jewel here is the pick, which helps them rebuild. -- Adam Gretz |

What happened to my CAPITALS? Not a single player picked up for their defense.C'mon MCFEE don't let us CAPS fans go out in the first round again.Nylander could have been traded for atleast for someone from the ice capades since that's all he does is skates in circles.Seriously we do need help or Boston is going to have a easy playoff run

Don't understand the confusion on the Leafs-Caps deal. Tampa get cap relief, and Toronto gets a draft pick for their trouble. Burke is in full slash-and-burn mode right now. This is his team and he's building it from the ground up.
