Flames 5, Flyers 1: The Calgary Flames were the big winners during the NHL's trade deadline, picking up Olli Jokinen from the Phoenix Coyotes and Jordan Leopold from the Colorado Avalanche. It didn't take the two newcomers long to make an impact for the Flames, as they each scored in the first period of Calgary's 5-1 win in Philadelphia. Jokinen scored a pair of goals in the first period, while Leopold added his seventh of the season to help the Flames race out to a 4-0 lead.
Miikka Kiprusoff made the start in net for the Flames and turned aside 35-of-36 shots in the win, while Philadelphia's Antero Niittymaki was lifted after giving up four goals on just 19 shots.
Rangers 4, Islanders 2: Hey, did you hear Sean Avery made his return to the NHL? He logged nearly 14 minutes of ice-time in the Rangers 4-2 win, while Trent Hunter welcomed him back by sending him into the boards early in the third period. Chris Drury, Scott Gomez, Nikolai Zherdev and Markus Naslund all scored for the Rangers, while Nik Antropov picked up an assist in his New York debut.
Predators 4, Blue Jackets 2: Nashville scored two goals in the final five minutes of the second period on its way to a 4-2 win over Columbus. Vernon Fiddler, Steve Sullivan, Martin Erat and Randy Jones all scored goals for the Predators, while Pekka Rinne stopped 31 shots to pick up the win in net. Antoine Vermette didn't play for Columbus due to some visa problems.

-- The Toronto Maple Leafs signed Jeff Hamilton. That's an odd rebuilding plan, Mr. Burke.
Friday's key games
-- Big Western Conference game as Anaheim hosts Dallas. Both teams need a win as they fight for a playoff spot.
