Alex Ovechkin: Not His Finest Moment

As we continue to wrap up our coverage of Sunday's awesome Penguins-Capitals game, it's worth taking another look at Sidney Crosby's goal in the first period of Pittsburgh's 4-3 shootout win. Not only the goal, but the "aggressive" back-checking of Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin.

I like Alex Ovechkin. I appreciate the world-class talent he brings to the NHL, he's exciting to watch, and unlike Don Cherry, I don't care if he celebrates after scoring goals (don't like it? Don't let him score). Having said that, come on, man! You have to back-check better than that!

If you watched Sunday's game, particularly the closing moments of the second period when Ovechkin went on his coast-to-coast sprint to beat the buzzer, you could see he's certainly fast enough to get himself back into that play. Even if he couldn't, he at least has to make the effort.

Let's just hope this was a one-time error by one of the best players in the league.
