Fleury Saves Game For Penguins

Forget for one second, if you can, that Bill Guerin scored a pair of goals -- including the game-winner in overtime -- in Pittsburgh's 3-2 win over Philadelphia on Friday night. The biggest moment of this game, and the highlight of this game, was without question Marc-Andre Fleury's ridiculous save on Jeff Carter midway through the third period.

Penguins 3, Flyers 2: Recap | Box Score | Friday's Scores

This is Frank Pietrangelo and "the save" all over again for Penguins fans. For Carter? It's a nightmare. If Carter, a 46-goal scorer during the regular season, buries that shot, like he's done so many times in his career, it's a 3-1 Flyers lead and the Penguins simply don't come back in this game.

Instead, Evgeni Malkin was credited with his second goal of the playoffs when a Kris Letang slap shot bounced off his leg with just under four minutes to play in regulation, sending the game to overtime.

Guerin's game-winner came on an extremely rare 5-on-3 power play, in overtime, after Philadephia's after Mike Knuble was sent off for cross-checking Brooks Orpik -- while the Flyers were on a power play -- and Claude Giroux slashed Chris Kunitz's stick, breaking it in half.

With 31 seconds remaining on the advantage, Guerin found a small opening between the right post and Biron's right leg, slipping it in for his second goal of the game.

Aside from Fleury's sprawling kick save in the third period, the Penguins' 24-year-old netminder turned aside 38-of-40 shots, and made another huge save in the overtime period, this time on Knuble.

At the opposite end of the rink, Biron's performance for the Flyers should not be overlooked, as the veteran stopped 46 shots and weathered the storm in the opening 10 minutes of regulation, keeping Philadelphia in the game. He earned third star honors for his performance, and had it not been for the play of Fleury and Guerin he would have been a slam dunk for the No. 1 star.

Scott Hartnell scored his first goal of the postseason for Philadelphia, while Darroll Powe also lit the lamp.

The Penguins take a 2-0 series lead into Sunday's game in Philadelphia.
