The Boston Bruins had quite a scare Saturday, as they prepared for Game Two of their playoff series against Montreal. Defenseman Matt Hunwick was taken to an area hospital after falling ill during a team meeting.Head coach Claude Julien says Hunwick's problem is related to his spleen. No other information was immediately available, though the Boston Globe says Hunwick apparently did not lose consciousness.
Julien didn't have a lot of information on Hunwick's condition for reporters, and actually made a point to talk about how fast things happened Saturday morning. However, he did sum up the situation pretty well at a press conference.
"We're a close-knit team," said Julien. "Everybody feels for each other. When something like that happens, there's no doubt that our players certainly feel for him. We'll definitely worry like everybody else until we get some results. It's part of life. I know he's in good hands. Hopefully we'll get good news tonight. The Bruins and Canadiens face off at 8pm ET Saturday. Boston leads the best-of-seven series 1-0 after a 4-2 win Thursday.
"... It's our job to make sure our team's focused. It's the responsibility of players. We're going to be OK. We're certainly not going to use that as an excuse. Hopefully before the game starts, everything will be under control and it will be us moving on, knowing that Matty is going to be fine and back with us as soon as he can."
With Hunwick out, Shane Hnidy will be in the lineup for Boston, giving them a bit more of a physical presence.
