During last night's game against the Bruins, Canadiens fans really let Carey Price, their starting netminder, hear their displeasure with him. Chants of "Carey! Carey!" rained down towards the end of the third and at one point, there was a lot of sarcastic applause for a save he made (video above). Price reacted to that by saluting the fans and, as the announcer on TSN points out, Price's reaction looked awfully similar to one from Patrick Roy in his final game as a Canadien.
In Roy's last game, he gave up nine goals and then stormed off the ice when he was pulled during the second period. Three days later he was traded to the Colorado Avalanche and the rest was history (read: two Stanley Cups).
Will Price now meet a similar fate?
It's hard to say. Price still has another year left on his entry level deal, which means that he would still be a restricted free agent when it expires next summer. The Canadiens would have to trade him, something that isn't completely out of the question considering that they have a pretty good backup in Jaroslav Halak, who put up almost identical numbers to Price this season. However, in the playoffs, things were a bit different. Halak only played one period while Price finished the series with a .878 save percentage and a 4.11 GAA. Both of those numbers are a world away from his regular season marks of .905 and 2.83. But remember that he wasn't playing the Eastern Conference Champs every day during the regular season.
This should all make for an interesting summer in Montreal. But it's really nothing new. It's another chapter of As The Habs Turn.
Hey Canadian fans, BOO THIS scumbags! The Montreal Canadians, the Oakland Raiders of the NHL, have become the biggest running joke of the league. You guys remember Roy? The guy you nitwits booed? The second winningest goalie in history who left your pathetic soap opera and became a multiple champion? And now you boo the national anthem of a neighbor? Must be small mans syndrome. To little to put up much of a fight so you boo like a little sissy. PATHETIC.
As a long-time Montreal fan, I am appalled by the lack of sportsmanship amongst the supposed Habs fans who booed Price and the Canadiens in their home arena, as well as the American national anthem. It's distasteful and embarrassing.
Funny, I didn't hear the crowd booing or otherwise chastising the horrifically sloppy defensemen who put Price firmly in the crosshairs for the last four games.
One of the worst place to play hockey on earth. Why do you think Jacques Lemaire doesn't want to coach in Mtl. Bad fans and press..... no class in Mtl anymore.......
To Prestacious...your comment well-taken. It was distasteful and unsportsmanlike, and glad that not all Montreal fans feel that way. Was sad for Carey Price, and WHY boo our national anthem?? Every year Detroit puts on the North American Fireworks show over the Detroit river, and it is meant for the enjoyment of BOTH the U.S. and Canada. And as a Red Wing fan, I would be embarrassed if our fans booed the Canadien national anthem. To anklebenders...agree with your comment also. Montreal has a PROUD hockey tradition, and it should not (and COULD not) be tainted by the actions of a few.

When all else fails, blame the goalie.
