Penguins Stanley Cup Parade Plans Set

What's a championship without a celebration?

The Pittsburgh Penguins, your new Stanley Cup Champions, are set to celebrate their title with the good people of Pittsburgh. If the plans sound familiar to Penguin fans at all, it's because this will be the same route used by the Steelers in February when they celebrated their Super Bowl win.

The plans call for a parade beginning at noon Eastern, leading to a stage celebration.
Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato announced plans this afternoon for the "City of Champions" victory parade.

"No words can describe the history-making comeback achieved by our team," Mr. Ravenstahl said. "No one believed that this could be done, that we could win on the road and defy history, and that the league's youngest captain could make it happen.

"On Monday, let's show the world how the 'City of Champions' welcomes home their Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins," he said.

"Monday's parade will be a great opportunity for this region to honor and celebrate this amazing Penguins team for bringing the Stanley Cup back home," Mr. Onorato said.
Since there will be road closures and many thousands of fans in attendance, city officials encourage those who want to go to take public transportation.

Pittsburgh's win Friday night was the first in a championship series Game 7 by any team, in any sport, since the 1979 Pirates beat the Baltimore Orioles. It was the first road win in a Stanley Cup Finals Game 7 since 1971.
