That disastrous Game 5 performance by Marc-Andre Fleury seems like an eternity ago, doesn't it? The Penguins' 24-year-old goaltender was brilliant in their Games 6 and 7 wins, and in each contest was responsible for the game-clinching, game-saving and game-winning saves to help the Penguins claim the third Stanley Cup in franchise history.
On Friday night, with 6.2 seconds to play in the season, Fleury made two of the biggest saves of his career as he not only turned aside a shot from Henrik Zetterberg through traffic, but he also stopped future Hall of Fame defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom on the rebound as time expired. Video after the jump.
What an incredible ending to an incredible series. Fleury had struggled in Detroit prior to Game 7 (though, he wasn't the only player), as the Penguins lost the first three games played in Joe Louis Arena by a combined score of 11-2. In the final two games of the series, with the Penguins facing elimination, Fleury was Pittsburgh's most important player, turning aside 48 of 50 shots.

I offer my CONGRATULATIONS to you Adam, and to the PITTSBURGH PENGUINS!!!!!! Your team wanted it MORE than WE did. They DESERVED IT, AND EARNED IT!!!!!!!
Give credit where credit is due. Not ALL of us Red Wing fans are sore losers, and to the Penguins and their fans, and the city of Pittsburgh---enjoy the summer with the Cup, be safe, think of those less fortunate than ourselves and God Bless!!!!

Classy Post rwing, like most of the posts I've seen from Wing fans. Best final in my lifetime in my opinion, and maybe the best overall playoffs I've see as well. Wings are a model franchise that everyone should emulate. Not sure if this is a passing of the torch, the wings are stacked, so is Washington, Chicago, San Jose (sorry if I left anyone out). This was an absolute (sorry michael vick) dogfight, and as I posted yesterday, a starnge bounce here or there, the shot off the post, and it's all different. It did seem to me that on so many high quality scoring chances, the Pens got the bounces and deflections where rebounds went away from the Pittsburgh net. I commented on that in the second period saying at that point the puck was bouncing our way. Maybe these two teams meet again next year, but many teams will have a say in that. I respect the wings and their fan base.

Another classic case where the best team did NOT win. Red Wings are superior in every facet, but this is just how hockey goes. About a third of the time, the best team does not win. Can't take anythign away from Penguins, however, they did what they needed to do.

Hi RWING: Great post! Sorry that the Wings didn't come out on top! I was happy to see Marc Andre Fluery, however, hoist the Stanley Cup last night as he was awesome in net and he seems like a genuinely nice guy! I know that all the Penguins were thrilled to win after their disappointing defeat last year. Congratulations to the Penquins and their fans! Hopefully, next year we will see the Wings back in the finals - perhaps playing against the Sabres? hahahaha Not likely but one can always hope!
