July 11 marks the anniversary of when the Pittsburgh Penguins traded Jaromir Jagr to the Washington Capitals for the woefully underwhelming (and somewhat embarrassing) return of Kris Beech, Michal Sivek and Ross Lupaschuk. Pensburgh, taking a look back at the trade, referred to the deal as a "lose-lose for both sides."
Statistically speaking, however, it was, and still is, the worst trade involving a Pittsburgh sports team.
Following the trade, Jagr played 467 games in the NHL, scoring 207 goals and recording 520 points with the Capitals and Rangers. The three guys the Penguins received? 239 games, 28 goals and 73 points.
While Jagr's stint in Washington may have been a disappointment, his time with the Penguins is still legendary.
The No. 6 goal, the one against Boston, is still my favorite, while the No. 1 goal was perhaps the biggest goal he ever scored.
With the Penguins, he won five scoring titles -- including four in a row from 1997-2001 -- helped the Penguins win two Stanley Cups, was named MVP in 1998-99, and won the Lester B. Pearson award three times.
If you're a Penguins fan, regardless of how you feel about his exit from Pittsburgh (the phrase "dying alive" was used), you still have to recognize him as the second greatest player in franchise history, responsible for some of the team's biggest postseason goals, and moments. And one of the best, most-gifted players to ever play in the NHL.

What a homer blog. Sakic retires and its like ok, enough about a REAL NHL star, lets babble about the more historically significant 7? 8? year anniversary of Jagr wanting to ditch the Pens?
lol, wow..

We had like four posts (including one from me) on Joe Sakic. Hardly, "yeah, OK, let's move on."

Adam, Claytor is a Pittsburgh hater and complains about every article written that says something about the Pens and Steelers. (unless you write something bad about them)...He loves to bring up how we almost lost the Pens and insists it's because the fans only care about them when they win. He will also bring up how bad the Pirates are on all message boards and the fact that Crosby isn't as good as Malkin. Plus he likes to remind everyone that the Steelers of the 70's took steroids...Just prepare for these kinda comments from him a lot as I know you are a Pittsburgh fan!.....OH and he will also point out any spelling errors made.

Hey darci, he can't help it if he was born in that open cesspit otherwise known as Cleveland. Team and city envy are merely indicative of other less displayable inadequacies the poor pitiful putrid punk suffers from. Just aloow the wretch his wee bit of ease, it's most likely all he has.

Cleetus, I know what you mean. My dad said the same thing because he (Claytor) also seems to hate young people like Sidney Crosby. God forbid there should be any article on what a great player Sid is. That gets Claytor in an uproar! I should just leave him be, but can't help myself sometimes. He just goes on and on about Pittsburgh no matter what anyone says about it. Like he even KNOWS anything about Pittsburgh. Great fans and an amazing place to live!!!!!

Lol, good to see its personal attack time. Actually i meant to post once, but this thing is sloth like when it comes to applying responses, i figured i had to retype it again.
A)I am not from Cleveland. I am from Baltimore. I am not moving to Cleveland either, but Columbus. Slight difference?
B)The "four articles" mentioned couldnt be enough for a player of Sakic's caliber. That fact that they all occurred in a couple of days, and this post with its misleading points (dying alive? really.) heaped upon it are kind of sad. Living in the tri-states area, im personally aware that Jagr wanted absolutely two things from Pittsburgh at the time. Jack is one, you two are intelligent enough beyond not staying relevant to the post to figure out what the other one is. He wanted 9 figures. Oh, not to mention out from under Mario's shadow, since he helped the -ahem- Thuper one win those cups, yet couldnt get the pay deserving of it.
C)Havent said anything about Sid (lol, well not lately, nutpunching aside..), other than allowing the best team to win the cup, and that was the Penguins. They also did it i may add the way i said they would: Malkin. This guy is the true superstar of Pittsburghs team, and its insane that during the playoff run when Malkins outpointing everyone else, his posts involved the skirmish with Henrik, and oh, he had a good game here or there, but hey, it was that Sid the Kid person guiding this team to glory! Since we spoke of Sakic, i suppose its fitting that Malkin is more akin to him, and should honestly be the Captain of this squad.
So there we have it, sticking to the topic of the post while making ones own opinion known of it. Wasnt so hard, was it guys? Ill venture to waiver a little off track when i do say however that id rather be insulted by someone named Cleetus? Than someone i respect.

What a touchy little git he is! If this was about 10 years ago, I may have found myself tempted to tweak 'claytor' till he goes "Forced Overtime Postal" but those games lost their luster long ago. And I have the Pens and the Steelers, what does he have? Like they say, enjoying your life is the best revenge and since I have nothing to avenge, I guess I'm one up on the poor Championship challenged critter.
BTW, thanks for the compliment on the moniker, my Zappa is showing again.

Well Cleetus, at least we now know why he hates Pittsburgh. He is from Baltimore. Not only do we have the better teams, we can also walk out side at night without fearing for out lives. Poor Claytor, I kinda feel bad for him.
