NHL's Top 50: Martin Brodeur (No. 11)

FanHouse's Adam Gretz takes a look at his top 50 players in the NHL. No. 11 is New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur.

After missing nearly four months of the 2008-09 season with torn triceps, Martin Brodeur returned to the lineup in spectacular fashion, recording shutouts in two of his first three starts. Business as usual for the NHL's all-time wins leader, and one of the greatest players to ever play the position.

Draft Year: 1990

The 20th overall pick, Brodeur was actually the second goalie off the board, selected nine spots after the Calgary Flames drafted Trevor Kidd.

Why He's On My List

Brodeur's list of career accomplishments speaks for itself. He's won the Vezina and Jennings Trophies four times each, won more games than any goalie in the history of the game, and has his name on the Stanley Cup three times. He's also played in nine All-Star games, and is just two shutouts behind Terry Sawchuk on the all-time list. Perhaps the best puck-handling goalie of all time, he's basically a third defenseman when he's on the ice. I don't think he's quite as dominant as he once was (especially in the playoffs in recent years) which is the only reason he's not higher on my list. He's still one of the best players in the NHL.
