Great Commercials in NHL History: Mats Sundin Edition

Great commercials in NHL history: A look back at the absurdity and hilarity of NHL advertising campaigns.

It's been a while since we jumped in the FanHouse time machine and rummaged for some great hockey commercials, so let's dedicate this one to long-time Maple Leafs (and Nordiques, and for a brief time, Canucks) forward Mats Sundin.

In this edition, Sundin challenges Wayne Gretzky for Big Macs, gets mocked for his love of ABBA, and turns a Canadiens goalie into a garden destroying maniac. Enjoy.

One Bad Apple

I believe this Nike commercial came out in the late 1990's -- perhaps the early 2000's? -- and it's set to the Osmond's tune, One Bad Apple. It features a youngster in a Sundin Maple Maple Leafs jersey rollerblading down a busy city sidewalk, body checking people into newsstands and dishing out hip-checks into parked cars ... until he gets a taste of his own medicine and gets blasted into a window by Mr. Sundin himself. What are you getting ready for?

You Remind Me Of Mats Sundin

After years of torment at the hands of Sundin, a Montreal Canadiens goaltender transforms himself into a maniacal gardener and sets out to destroy Maple Leafs (I guess in this case it would be maple leaves) with a riding lawnmower.

Shooting For Big Macs

Remember the old McDonalds commercials with Michael Jordan and Larry Bird playing an elaborate game of H.O.R.S.E, with the winner taking home the ultimate prize of a Big Mac? Well, there was a hockey one, too, featuring Mats Sundin and the great one, Wayne Gretzky, shooting pucks for lunch at McDonalds.

Sundin Likes ABBA

Simple and to the point, and one of my all-time favorites for reasons that I can't explain.
