Video: An Example of Murphy's Law at Work in Toronto

OK, so maybe it's not all Vesa Toskala's fault in Toronto. I don't mean to pile on the Maple Leafs here, but man, this team can't catch a break.

With its 4-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday, Toronto fell to 0-5-1 on the season, dropping its fifth straight game in regulation.

The description on TV (video after the jump) following Colorado's fourth goal of the game seems to sum up the Leafs' season through the first three weeks: "when it rains, it pours."

Head coach Ron Wilson attempted a number of lineup changes prior to the game.

Toskala, the Leafs' embattled goaltender, was out of the lineup with a knee injury and replaced by third-string netminder Joey MacDonald, while Wilson scratched Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman and Jeff Finger, replacing them with Garnet Exelby, Tyler Bozak and Vikor Stalberg ... and getting the same result on the scoreboard.

A loss.

With his team trailing, 3-1, midway through the second period, free agent acquisition Mike Komisarek went for a big hit, and as he attempted to get himself back into position, he was unlucky enough to have a puck bounce off of his head and find its way into the net to give the Avs what turned out to be an insurmountable 4-1 advantage.



It's just been an awful start for Toronto, and Komisarek in particular. He was also responsible for an elbowing penalty that led to Darcy Tucker's power play goal earlier in the period.

While everything that can go wrong in Toronto is going wrong, it's the exact opposite for the folks in Colorado. A team that entered the season with seemingly zero expectations is now 4-1-1 out of the gate. It's Colorado's best start to a season since it opened the 2000-01 campaign with a 9-0-2 mark.
