It might be the best goal you'll see all season, and it's even more impressive when you consider it's a nine-year-old doing it.
Video after the jump.
The poor goalie, he had no idea what to do. According to Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy, the Portland Junior Pirates are a team of mostly 12-year-olds, and the nine-year-old Wahlstrom is playing against older competition.
This kid was obviously watching the moves of former Springfield Falcon (AHL), and current New York Islander, Rob Schremp.
Below, Oliver talks about the shot on CBS' The Early Show.

That was not a "gametime" goal, people. The only two people on the ice were the shooter and the "goalie", and he made NO effort to block the shot-- the goal crease might just has well have been empty.
Okay, it's very pretty skating, but it was obviously developed and rehearsed as a "trick shot" to be used as a half-time stunt, or some such malarkey. I guess it doesn't take much to entertain the one-tooth-brigade up North...

The kid admitted he makes that shot about one out of 20 tries.... amazing he nailed it in front of all those people...but seriously, kids mess around at the rinks trying out shots like that all over the world!!!!!

This is what is great about kids. They are fearless! Sure, it is a trick shot that he practiced. But, he had to guts to try it and he nailed it! It's like a really good skateboard trick that you keep trying until you get it just right. Way to go, Ollie!

Bruce have you never heard the saying if you have nothing good to say dont say nothing at all? I mean this is a 9 year old whether its a trick shot or not, whether its gametime or not its still pretty awesome!

Lame - Been doing that for years. All the kids do it up here. I got sucked in to this video cause I thought it was going to be "truely amazing". Well, it was pretty lame up here in Minnesota.

Um... an NHL player has done this exact move in a shootout to win, so that PROBABLY isn't such a factual statement.

You guys have to remember that this kid is only NINE YEARS OLD. It's pretty impressive for a nine year old.

That wasn't nearly as good as a NHL player can do. A minor league player did that with the stick behind him and inbetween his legs and did a 360. This isn't that amazing

Guys that goal has alot of wow factor but he isnt the first to do it and hes not going to be the last.
Brigette I suggest clicking on the links above before saying thats better than any NHL'er could do. Rob Schremp did it in an AHL comp and he plays in the NHL now. Youtube Mike Smith trick shot, hes a goalie. Theres several guys in the league that can pull that kind of shot off.

I completely agree fahded25. I don't know much about hockey, but I'm really tired of people labeling things as "amazing," "incredible," "awesome"... that simply aren't.
