There was a play early in Saturday's Calgary-New York game that flew under the radar when, just under a minute into the contest, Flames forward Curtis Glencross caught Rangers captain Chris Drury with a blindside, open-ice hit. Drury suffered a concussion as a result of the play, while Glencross was not penalized. That's not stopping the NHL from stepping in and issuing a three-game suspension to the Flames forward.
Video of the hit after the jump.
The incident occurs at the top of the screen, just on the edge of the faceoff circle.
It's hard to see what exactly happened because the camera angle isn't the best (did he catch him with a shoulder? Elbow? Was it directly to the head?) and the replays aren't much better. It's also impossible to see if Drury even touched the puck prior to getting hit. Bottom line, however, is that Drury has a concussion and Glencross will be losing three game checks.

It's not hard to see. Glencross skated the width of the ice and blinsided him with head shot. Problem I have is that noe of the officials on the ice saw it, and yet I am sitting 2 thousand miles away watching on TV and I saw it. Glencross deserves the suspenision, but also think the NHL should reprimand on ice officials who miss such a blatant illegal as that one was. Puck was not even close to Drury either.

I agree and if you watch closely the Ref was just feet away looking at it.. The NHL has to stop these deliberate to injury penalies by issueing suppenision that are equal to the amount of time that the injuried player is out of the line up!! bet you that would stop these players that play dirty like Glencross. Avery has nothin to do with this way bring him into to it!!!

D-man was clearing the puck toward Drury who makes a slight attempt to knock the puck out of the air. Glencross hits him with his shoulder in the helmet/head - something NHL and NFL are trying to outlaw. He should have gotten an interference penalty but NO SUSPENSION - I've seen a lot worse especially from cheap shot artist N.Y. Ranger Steve Avery. I agree that the officials should be shown the replay to see what they missed.
