Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price dropped his gloves. His counterpart with St. Louis Blues, Ty Conklin, dropped his stick and skated to mid-ice. But the chances of goalie fisticuffs fizzled after Price's first-period collision with Blues winger Cam Janssen during Wednesday's 4-3 overtime victory in Montreal.
"I was at the end of the shift and I was just just going for the puck," Janssen said between periods on Fox Sports Midwest. "I was the first man there. I couldn't just let them break it right out. I saw him come right at me. We both went (for the puck) at the same time. I was just trying to get out of the way, but too bad the boards were right there and I hit him. Whatever."
Price fell backwards after the collision and threw off his glove and blocker. He tried to grab Janssen, who was already busy with Habs defenseman Roman Hamrlik.
"(Price) dropped his gloves and acted like he was going to fight me, but let's be honest here," said Janssen, who entered Wednesday second on the Blues with 104 penalty minutes.
While one could argue that Price was guilty of roughing or maybe third-man in misconduct penalty, he --- and whatever Montreal player who would be forced to serve the infraction --- didn't draw any time. Instead, Hamrlik and Janssen received roughing minors and Conklin was given a minor for leaving his crease.
On the ensuing power play, the Habs scored their first goal of the game as Benoit Pouliot beat Conklin.

Love this story. Good job Perez. Like your style.
I'm a goalie and I'm all for protecting them. But if you come out that far you're asking to get checked. Oh and Mr. Price. If you're going to fight, how about you take off your helmet. Kind of hard to get into a fair fight with a facemask on. Also isn't Conklin supposed to get a penalty for leaving his zone?
If you notice it says in the second to last paragraph Conklin did get a minor penalty for leaving his crease. But lets be honest, any goalie who saw his team in the corner fighting probably would skate out to see whats going on too. When Price left the crese he knew there was the chance that he was going to get hit. They were both headed for the puck and Janssen went to the right as much as he could and cleanly hit Price. I dont understand why Price did not get a penalty at all.
Yes, but at the end of the day, HABS lost. That is not good. Besides, the Blues player clearly jumped, meaning he's (like Darren Pang said) was trying to get out of the way, and again what was he supposed to do?
